Nusa Penida, from isolation to the inevitable

With an area of more than 200km², its high cliffs, wooded hills, turquoise waters and seabed as rich as surprising, Nusa Penida has become a must in Bali!

Significantly larger than its two sisters (Nusa Lembongan and Nusa Ceningan), Nusa Penida is an island located in South East Bali. It has long served as a place of exile for criminals, political opponents and followers of black magic. The elders were convinced that the king of demons, Jero Gede Macaling, had found refuge there after being chased out of Bali. These legends have long given a bad name to this island, allowing him to keep some isolation until now...

Today, it is possible to visit the many impressive views of the island such as Broken Beach, Angel's Billabong, Saren Cliff or Kelingbing Beach, the best known.

But it is mainly its seabed that made Nusa Penida famous, with more than 290 species of coral and 570 species of reef fish. It is mostly possible to observe manta rays throughout the year and the moon fish (also called "Mola Mola") from July to November with exceptional visibility.
